Back to main tournament page...

Hello Everyone,

I'm looking forward to a great event this weekend with this year's BC Open tournament.

You MUST read and follow these instructions carefully. Failure to do so could result in your removal from the tournament!

  1. Prior to the event, verify your username is correct on the player list via our tournament website: http://bcopenchess.pbworks.com/w/page/7082404/FrontPage
If it is not you must immediately email brendan.woodroff+td@gmail.com with your correct username.

  2. CAREFULLY read the pairing instructions here: http://bcopenchess.pbworks.com/w/page/140374038/BCSenior-StepByStep
If you do not follow these instructions exactly you will not be available to be paired on the live chess server. We do not have the time or resources to hunt you down, you will receive a forfeit and be removed from the tournament if you do not show for your first round match.

  3. Round times are posted in Pacific Standard Time (UTC-8). The 1st round starts at 12:00pm Pacific / 3:00pm Eastern

  4. Be online at least 10 MINUTES before the start of each round

  5. Due to the number of players it may take UP TO 5 MINUTES for your match to start
You are being paired by me, manually, and I can only pair 10-12 boards per minute.
You, the player, are responsible for your connection and being on the right website at the start of your round. You are encouraged to thoroughly re-read these instructions and ask questions if necessary. There is a maximum of 10 minute allowance for late arrivals before you are forfeit as a no-show. If you arrive late your clock will be negatively adjusted.
You are responsible for your computer and internet connection. We are not able to help you troubleshoot or repair your equipment.

Fair play will be managed by the playing host, chess.com. The fair play policy involves more than just not using an engine and also includes sandbagging, multi-accounting, and more. If you are concerned an opponent has violated the fair play policy you are encouraged to submit a player report via the website's reporting tool. More information on their policy is available here: https://support.chess.com/article/648-what-do-i-need-to-know-about-fair-play-on-chess-com
Account closures due to fair play violation will result in your immediate removal from the tournament including the invalidation of any games already played. Account closure decisions are made by chess.com and cannot be influenced by the tournament director or organizer in any way.
In the event of a fair play violation, you may be further penalized and restricted from playing rated online events at the discretion of the CFC.
If you are not willing to accept these terms or the outcome of a fair play decision by the host you are encouraged to withdraw from the tournament immediately.

Q&AQ: What do I do if my game hasn't started?

A: If you are on the chesscom live server (https://www.chess.com/live) and your game hasn't started within 5 minutes, odds are your opponent is late. If you still do not have a match and have been waiting more than 5 minutes you can email me at brendan.woodroff+td@gmail.com. I will do my best to reply as quickly as possible to let you know the status of your opponent.

Q: Can I take a bye?

A: Half point byes are available for the first 5 rounds and must be requested before the end of the previous round. 0 point byes are available for the final round. Forced byes, due to having an odd number of players for a round, are awarded a full point.

Q: What if I need to withdraw?

A: You must email me as soon as possible. If you do not email me to withdraw you will be paired and receive a loss for your unattended game.

Q: What if I mouse slip?

A: Chess is a touch move game both in real life and on the internet. Making the correct move is your responsibility and no exceptions will be made for 'mouse slips'

Over the course of the 2021 BC Open I will act in good faith to uphold the laws of chess and ensure a great event as your tournament director. I do not represent chess.com or it's affiliates in this regard and my views and opinions are my own.

Good Luck Everyone,
